Discipling a Nation
Our goal is not going to be to get individuals saved, but to save nations. It is not going to be to disciple one, but to disciple movements and different elements of the culture. This is going to require a huge shift for us, the Body of Christ. For the average church in America, doing the Matthew 28 thing never crosses their mind. It never enters their thinking at all. The shifting of the Supreme Court is one of those areas we are discipling in the culture of this nation. While President Trump was considering candidates for the Supreme Court when Justice Kennedy retired, I attended a large Charismatic church. I kept waiting for somebody to pray about his choice. This presidential decision would have the ability to impact our nation for the next 40-50 years. Our children and grandchildren will be impacted by who would fill that seat. Everything we have been praying for will be dramatically impacted: the ability to preach the Gospel in this nation, the sanctity of marriage and human life, etc. There are no more significant decisions being made in this nation right now than the seating of the Supreme Court Justices. I kept waiting for someone to at least mention it as a matter of prayer. I kept waiting for someone to pray about this or even just say, “Pray that God would help our President make the right choice to place the right person on the Supreme Court.” Just something! If not even a five-minute prayer, at least a 15-second announcement! How about a mention as they were headed out the door? It probably won’t surprise you that it was never even mentioned at all.
“And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, ‘All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.’” (Matthew 28:18-20; NASB)
Give Him 15 minutes in prayer:
- Intercede for the Church regarding the lack of understanding the Body of Christ is walking in regarding Matthew 28:18-20.
- Ask God to give church leadership revelation on what the discipling of nations looks like.
- Pray for church leaders to be aware of governmental situations where godly leaders can make a difference.
- Pray that congregations start praying about these things.
- Tell your pastor that you will be happy to stay on top of these things and lead the church in prayer regarding them.
A prayer you can pray:
God, we are in trouble. Jesus said, ‘All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.’ We don’t know what that means. We are typically taught that it is talking about discipling individuals, but it says “people groups” or “cultures”. Oh, how our lives would be different if we taught about and prayed about engaging the culture. Our nation would be different if we prayed regularly for our President and other elected officials and the decisions they make. Show our pastors how important this is. Help them teach our congregations and lead us in prayer regarding these important things. Anoint me to go and meet with my leader and tell them I am happy to help with this. The future of my children, grandchildren, and nation are dependent on this. Thank you, Jesus. Amen.
The Church will learn to disciple America, from the government, to the culture, to the individual!
