Holding the Courts Accountable

Not only the Supreme Court, but others in the Judiciary system have run amuck. One of today’s liberal federal judges, Richard Posner, no longer even sees the need to twist the Constitution’s meaning in order to make his warped rulings. He simply admits that to him, and many other judges and attorneys today, the Constitution is irrelevant. “I see absolutely no value to a judge of spending decades, years, months, weeks, days, hours, minutes, or seconds studying the Constitution, the history of its enactment, its amendments, and its implementation…the original Constitution, the Bill of Rights, and the post-Civil War amendments (including the 14th), do not speak to today.1 (Emphasis mine.) So, if you’re wondering where in the Constitution judges find the removing of prayer from schools, abortion rights, the redefining of marriage and other liberal positions, the answer is simple: they don’t. They simply legislate from the bench, according to their own desires and ideals, leading to an overly powerful judiciary branch with no remaining standard for which they must be held accountable.

“You shall appoint for yourself judges and officers in all your towns which the LORD your God is giving you, according to your tribes, and they shall judge the people with righteous judgment.” (Deuteronomy 16:18; NASB) “For the LORD is our judge, the LORD is our lawgiver, the LORD is our king; he will save us.” (Isaiah 33:22; KJV)

Give Him 15 minutes in prayer:

  • Bring your anger to the Lord and let Him turn it into intercession with weeping for the twisting in our judicial system!
  • It is critical that the nation has a firm foundation to stand on and that foundation is the Constitution of the United States of America. Call to the Judge of the Whole Earth to consider these that ignore it and ask the Lord to replace them with judges that will honor our Constitution.
  • Boldly ask the Lord for a reversal of decisions that have been made by opinion and current cultural influences or international standards. Ask God for justice and expect it, because these decisions were made under false pretenses!

A prayer you can pray:

God, it is frustrating for your people when we have appointed judges that do not honor our founding documents, especially the United State Constitution. This document was founded on godly principles, but modern judges are telling us they are purposefully ignoring it! We appeal to a higher Court and we ask You, Judge of the Earth, to move on behalf of our intercession and replace these renegade judges who judge according to their whims and fancies with those that will honor our Constitution. We also boldly ask You to raise up situations to bring cases back before re-seated courts that will result in righteous judgements and set the nation back on a proper course founded on proper interpretation of the Constitution. In Jesus’ Name, amen.

Today’s decree:

The Lord will give this nation judges that honor the Constitution upon which it was founded!

Leadership Humility

Those who lead a nation should remember that they were elected by “we the people.” The United States of America was formed as a Republic, which means we elect those who are supposed to represent the people they were elected by. Sadly, politicians often get elected, then do whatever they want, ignoring the desires of their constituents. We need to elect humble leaders who will listen to the people they serve and make decisions that benefit the majority of their lives. This is how the Republic is preserved.

“Jesus called the apostles and said, ‘You know that the acknowledged rulers of nations have absolute power over people and their officials have absolute authority over people. But that’s not the way it’s going to be among you. Whoever wants to become great among you will be your servant.’” (Mark 10:42-43; GW)

Give Him 15 minutes in prayer:

  • Intercede on behalf of the elected leaders in your area: President, Vice President, Senator, S. Representative, State Representatives, County officials, City Mayor and Council Members. If you don’t know who they are, search online and find out. Carry the list with you and commit to the Lord to pray for them on a regular basis.
  • Ask the Holy Spirit to convict your elected leaders if you are sure they are not representing the will of the people that elected them. Write them an email and tell them why you believe this. Be respectful, but honest. Let them know you are praying regularly for them.
  • Ask the Lord for humble men and women to be raised up by the Lord in your area who will listen to the people and can govern with wisdom and compassion for those they serve. Run for office, if that describes you. Don’t be afraid! God equips those He calls.

A prayer you can pray:

Dear Lord, I lift up my elected leaders. (Name them by name and pray for each one.) Lord, convict those who have their own agendas and who ignore the people’s will in the sin of pride. Tell them quickly, Lord, and give them an opportunity to repent before they trip and fall over the consequences of their actions. Bring them to Your throne of grace and teach them a better way of ruling—from a position of service to others. Please raise up men and women to governmental office in my area and in the nation who are humble. Raise up those who listen to the people and weigh out decisions carefully, seeking You for guidance or at least making decisions that benefit the majority of those they serve. If You want me to run for political office, Lord I am here to serve You. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

God, I ask for humble political leaders for my city, state and nation!

The Importance of Selecting Righteous Leaders

The same standard by which we choose leaders in the Church, should be the standard by which we choose our government leaders. In the church it is called righteousness.  In the secular environment, it is called ethics. If we do not have leaders that adhere to a high standard and to the Constitution’s boundaries, they will find themselves governing a restless, untrusting people.

“But select from among you, brethren, seven men of good reputation, full of the Spirit and of wisdom, whom we may put in charge of this task.” (Acts 6:3; NASB)

Give Him 15 minutes in prayer:

  • Commit to the Lord that you will seek Him for His choice of candidate in the national elections – individuals who will uphold the Constitution and will govern in a just and ethical manner. (“Righteous” in Proverbs 29:2 means “conforming to an ethical standard.”)
  • Pray that the Lord prepares their heart to govern and grants them grace, as they will be pulled on by many people, special interest groups and spiritual forces. Even those with strength of character can sway under political pressure.
  • Pray for Christians to get out and vote, even though choices may be hard! There are an estimated 90 million Christians in America. At least 13 million are not registered to vote and in 2012, 26 million Christians who were registered to vote, did not!1 Don’t be a statistic! You can learn how to register to vote here.

A prayer you can pray:

Father, I commit to seek You for the person You can see can lead our nation in a righteous, ethical manner and uphold the Constitution upon which this nation is founded. I pray in advance that You would prepare their heart and grant them wisdom and great grace! I pray they will stand strong against the powers and influence that will try to manipulate the decisions they make. I pray for strong character that grows in strength daily and that they will seek You or learn to seek You for answers to hard decisions. God call Your sleeping Church to the polls. Help me to invite all of my friends to vote and make sure they know where to get information to do so. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Today’s decree:

The Church will rise up and pray for and elect leaders with strong moral fortitude who will support the Constitution and govern with grace and wisdom.

What Is The Price of Freedom?

“Do you know what price the signers of that parchment paid for their patriotism, the devotion to principle? John Hancock of Massachusetts was one of the wealthiest men who came to Philadelphia. Later, as he stood outside Boston and watched the enemy sweep by, he said, ‘Burn, Boston, though it makes John Hancock a beggar.’

“Altogether, of the 56 men who signed our great Declaration, 5 were taken prisoner, 12 had their homes sacked, 2 lost their sons, 9 died in the war itself. Those men knew what they were doing. In the final stirring words of the Declaration, they pledged to one another ‘our lives, our Fortunes and our sacred Honor.’ And when liberty was at stake, they were willing to pay the price.”1

“Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ.” (Philippians 3:8; ESV)

Give Him 15 minutes in prayer:

  • Our founding fathers counted the cost to live free. We must do the same to live free in Christ. Stop and think about this.
  • Are we willing today to pay the price or pray the price to develop the nation we want to live in—one that is found pleasing to the Lord? Talk to the Lord about this.
  • Ask the Lord to supernaturally create the unity in the body of Christ that is needed and the strategies needed to become a nation that honors God. Commit to be a nation-changer.

A prayer you can pray:

Lord, thank you that You gave us the example in the Apostle Paul that there is Kingdom business that is worth giving up everything to see come to pass. And there is nation-building business worth it, as well. Give me a determination to work together with You and to pray unceasingly to see a national transformation that honors You. I am here, Lord, use me! In Jesus’ Name, amen.

Today’s decree:

If I will be free, there will be a cost and I am determined to pay it rather than live in bondage to sin or to man!

Independence Day

“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness. That, to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just Powers from the consent of the governed. That, whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such Principles and organizing its Powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness.”1

“Let the nations be glad and sing for joy; For You will judge the peoples with uprightness and guide the nations on the earth. Selah.” (Psalm 67:4; NASB)

Give Him 15 minutes in prayer:

  • The above is taken from the Declaration of Independence of the United States of America. In just a few sentences it honors God, honors life, and honors equality of people. It explains government and tells us what to do if and when that government is not working anymore. Thank the Lord for forefathers who honored Him and gave us such a model.
  • Pray for our current governmental leaders. Ask God to remove those that are not honoring Him or abiding by the principles above. Ask Him for leadership that does. Thank the Lord for His guidance of these leaders.
  • Pray for the first sentence of the Declaration to be reality in the USA.

A prayer you can pray:

Father, I thank You for a founding document that honors You, honors life and honors the equality of people. I thank You for founders that looked to You for the words and justification to remove themselves from ungodly rule and to set up a nation out from under oppression. I lift our current governmental leaders to You (list as many by name as you can). Please lead them by Your sovereign guidance, Lord, or remove them and replace them with those that can live according to the above document. We worship You, Father. In the Name of Jesus, Amen.

Today’s decree:

We are one nation under God, meant to honor life and respect the equality of all men and women. We will accept no other model of government than a free Republic.

Let’s Continue the Turnaround!

Rather than giving up on America, join me and thousands of others, as we appeal to heaven for a third great awakening, which could result in millions of people saved, and a resurrection of the America we love. As we celebrate our birth as a nation, let’s recommit ourselves to seeing a rebirth of truth, integrity, and our godly heritage. Don’t give up on America!

“And let us not get tired of doing what is right, for after a while we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t get discouraged and give up.” (Galatians 6:9; TLB)

Give Him 15 minutes in prayer:

  • As we get ready to celebrate our nation’s birthday tomorrow, let’s not forget among the celebration the great cost that was paid to birth this nation. And, let’s ask God for a rebirth of it in our day and age.
  • Boldly ask God that this nation would birth a third Great Awakening! We are seeing signs of revival. Press in for more outpouring—saved souls, transformed lives and eventual governmental change.
  • Recommit yourself to being a promoter of truth, integrity and godly heritage. It will take all of us to turn this ship around!

A prayer you can pray:

Lord, we come to You today and thank You for this great nation, the United States of America. We acknowledge that this nation was birthed from great bravery in the face of impossible odds in order that Your dream could come to pass. We want to see another wave of that dream—a third Great Awakening! We want to see souls saved and lives changed, hearts altered and a nation born again! In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Today’s decree:

We will not give up on America! We will pray and act and be participants in God’s dream for our nation!

What Thomas Jefferson Feared

Though it is impossible to overstate the damage inflicted over the past 7 years by the current administration, much of the destruction actually began in the 1960’s when God’s influence was removed from our schools. Our destruction originated in the Supreme Court. Interestingly, this was “prophesied” by Thomas Jefferson, whose greatest fear was that the courts would inappropriately take authority not afforded them by the Constitution—which he helped draft! In 1821 Jefferson declared, “The germ of dissolution of our federal government is in the federal judiciary. An irresponsible body, working like gravity by night and by day, gaining a little today and a little tomorrow, and advancing its noiseless step like a thief over the field of jurisdiction, until all shall be usurped from the states.”

“How horrible it will be for those who call evil good and good evil, who turn darkness into light and light into darkness, who turn what is bitter into something sweet and what is sweet into something bitter.” (Isaiah 5:20; GWT)

Give Him 15 minutes in prayer:

  • Let’s pray about the Supreme Court today. You can learn about the Court here.
  • Call the Court to accountability before the Judge of the whole earth. Proclaim that there is a Court above our Court, which will someday try every man for their deeds.
  • Intercede with passion for the salvation of the current 9 Supreme Court Justices and those past justices that are still living: John Paul Stevens, Sandra Day O’Connor and David Souter. Forgive them, for they do not understand what they have done as far as making decisions that turn the nation’s course away from that which pleases God.
  • Declare that the Court is limited to the Constitutional boundaries it was given and that it shall not make law! Ask for a long-seated God-fearing Court.

A prayer you can pray:

Dear Lord, teach me about the U. S. Supreme Court and the role the Justices were supposed to play, as opposed to the role they do play. We bring this court to You, Judge of the earth, and we ask You to judge with righteous judgement the actions of this court. We declare that Your rulings alone will stand. Turn the hearts of these men and women, as You turn the course of water. Reveal Yourself to them and we pray that they would be saved. We declare that the U. S. Supreme Court is limited in its actions to the boundaries given to it in the Constitution. We ask for God-fearing Justices that will serve long and serve our people well. In the Name of Jesus, Amen.

Today’s decree:

We decree that the usurping power of the Supreme Court Justices is stopped in its tracks today and that the Court will return to its boundaries mandated by the U. S. Constitution.

Have You Done Nothing?

In the movie The Patriot, Benjamin Martin’s sister-in-law attempted to comfort him, defending his decision not to fight the British. “You have done nothing for which to be ashamed,” she said. Martin’s powerful and poignant response was, “I have done nothing. For that I am ashamed.” God forbid this would become the tragic epitaph of believers in America. May we, like Martin, awaken to the cause and fight.

“So you see, it isn’t enough just to have faith. You must also do good to prove that you have it. Faith that doesn’t show itself by good works is no faith at all—it is dead and useless.” (James 2:17; TLB)

Give Him 15 minutes in prayer:

  • If you feel as Benjamin Martin did, the good news is you can repent. Change your mind and determine to go a different way.
  • Look around and decide what you can do to make a difference in the nation. Pray, of course. Vote, of course! Make a new unsaved friend. Contact your Senator or Congressman in support of legislation or to state that you are opposed to some. Attend a City Council or School Board meeting and learn how you can run for local office. There are lots of ways to work toward changing a nation.
  • Pray for those that represent you in office, from your city council level to congressional level. If you don’t know who your elected officials are at the local, county, state and federal levels, do an online search and find out!

A prayer you can pray:

Lord, I have to admit that there are times when I feel that I do nothing. I wonder if the small part I can do would make a difference or would really matter. Forgive me for thinking that way. If all Christians did just a little bit, it would add up to a LOT! Change my heart now and lead me to know how to act as well as pray. Show me if there is anything specific you would like me to be doing. I want to help my nation glorify You, Jesus. Amen.

Today’s decree:

I am determined to never feel ashamed for doing nothing to shift my nation to glorify God through Jesus Christ!

If You’re 18, You Can Vote!

On June 30, 1971 “the 26th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution was enacted, granting the right to vote in all federal, state and local elections to American citizens 18 years or older. The U.S. thus gained an additional 11 million voters. The minimum voting age in most states had been 21.”1

“The God of Israel has talked to me; and the Rock of Israel said, ‘One who rules people with justice and who leads them in the fear of God is like the morning light, the sun rising on a cloudless morning, and the shining grasslands brought up from rain.’” (2 Samuel 23:3-4; VOICE)

Give Him 15 minutes in prayer:

  • Young people between the ages of 18 and 21, rejoice, because you have been given a voice in our nation’s affairs and you can express that voice in a vote!
  • Have you registered to vote? If not, click here to find out what you need to do to get registered to vote on November 8.
  • Spend some time in prayer and ask the Lord who you should vote for. And, do a little research. Start praying today, but continue daily until you know what to do.

A prayer you can pray:

Father, thank you that I have a voice in our nation’s future! I can vote! Help me to take the responsibility to help guide my nation forward seriously by voting in November. Please show me who You would like me to vote for. Lead me to the information and counsel I need to help get this nation on track with Your heart, will and plan. In the Name of Jesus, Amen.

Are Supreme Court Reversals Possible?

In light of the Supreme Court striking down Texas SB5 which would have allowed for abortion clinic guidelines to protect the safety and lives of mothers seeking abortion, many feel like this is a permanent decision. On June 29, 1972 “the U. S. Supreme Court ruled 5-4 that capital punishment was a violation of the Eighth Amendment prohibiting ‘cruel and unusual punishment.’ Four years later, in another ruling, the Court reversed itself.”1

“When the godly are in authority, the people rejoice. But when the wicked are in power, they groan.” (Proverbs 29:2; NLT)

Give Him 15 minutes in prayer:

  • Where God is honored, hope springs eternal. Worship Him who gives you hope!
  • Repent for any feelings of hopelessness you may have been struggling with. Cast them off and hope again.
  • Thank the Lord that Supreme Courts are made of men who each have an ideology. Pray for God to reseat the Court and give us righteous Justices who could reverse abortion in our lifetime!

A prayer you can pray:

Father, You give hope to the hopeless! Grant me grace today to believe that all things are possible to those that believe! I repent for any place in me that says “God can’t” or “God doesn’t want to” or “God won’t.” God, You can and You want to and you will in Your perfect timing. I boldly ask You to place Justices on the U. S. Supreme Court that will someday reverse abortion in this nation! My eyes are fixed on You and on that day, Lord!   In Jesus’ life-giving Name, Amen.

Today’s decree:

God is able to seat a Supreme Court that will reverse abortion in my lifetime!
