Transition Series – Worship Him

This is another simple thing to do in transition—worship Him. Put a CD on or sing your own words; just worship. Sometimes when I need direction, I will just get in my truck and drive with worship on. I’m not really going anywhere. I just need the solitude and the time in His Presence in worship. I build my own prayer CDs (you might use iTunes or another program). I put songs on there they really seem to get me into prayer and keep me there. I will put two or three hours of worship on there. As I listen, you know what? The Lord just draws me into His Presence and begins to speak to me. I don’t hear a voice telling me what to do. I just begin to think His thoughts. I know I’m thinking His thoughts, because they line up with His Word and they are not thoughts I would normally have. His wisdom, His will, and His plans are just transferred to me.

In Proverbs 3:5-6, there’s a word often translated “acknowledge”. But this word in the Hebrew is “yadah”. It is the number one word in the Bible for “intimate knowledge”, as in the relationship between a husband and a wife. It was the word when the Bible says that Adam knew Eve and she brought forth a son. It is experiential and intimate knowledge. So, He is saying in that passage, “If you need direction in all of your ways, in your decisions, “yadah” Me and I will direct your paths. Draw near to Him. It’s not like God is holding out on us until we tell Him how wonderful He is. Worship is not just telling God how great He is because He needs to hear it. It’s communion. God doesn’t need to hear the worship. He needs you.

“Trust in the Lord completely, and do not rely on your own opinions. With all your heart rely on him to guide you, and he will lead you in every decision you make. Become intimate with him in whatever you do, and he will lead you wherever you go.” (Proverbs 3:5-6; TPT)

Give Him 15 minutes in prayer:

  • Put your favorite worship music on. Heart to heart, worship Him.
  • Meditate on Psalm 25:14, “The secret of the Lord is for those that fear him, and he will show them his covenant.” (JUB) “Secret is “cowd” (pronounced “sowed”). It is a word for intimacy. It means a couch or pillow. It literally means “pillow talk”; heart to heart communication. There are things about His covenant with you that He wants to show you.
  • Meditate on this prophetic word: “He is saying to you, ‘If you will take a few minutes today and draw near to Me, I will draw near to you. The intimacy that develops will create the kind of walk with Me that allows Me to speak to you in ways that I can’t speak to you when you are busy and distracted. I’ll show you what to do from this place of intimacy.’”

A prayer you can pray:

[Today, simply worship him and walk through the prayer points above.]

Today’s decree:

God’s worshipping ones will become evident to unbelievers in our communities. Let our intimate walk with Him be obvious, and draw lovesick and empty souls to Him.

Transition Series – Lean Heavily on His Word

When you are going through a time of change, you need to do more of the basics. Read your Bible. It’s not the time to do a study of eschatology or deep doctrinal study. Just go back to the basics. It’s very important to send time in the Word when you are in a decision-making process. Jesus said, “The words I speak to you are spirit and life.” He will cause His words to come alive and speak to you. They will become living words and will lead you. They may lead you directly, or they may simply do something in your heart that will cause you to be able to hear. When you read a verse, it may jump off the page at you. The Word may so feed your spirit and strengthen your inner man that you gain an ability to hear that you didn’t have before.

There’s an interesting verse in John 8:37 where Jesus is being challenged by the Pharisees. He said, “You are trying to kill me, because my word has no place in you.” What it literally says in the Greek is, “You’re trying to kill me, because My word is making no progress in you.” He was trying to feed them and give them enough Word that, if they had accepted it, it would have progressed in them and transformed them. They would have known the will of God. Their mindsets would have changed, and they would have gone the right direction. We kill the process of the Lord in our lives when the Word makes no progress in us. We kill the process of change. We kill transformation and sanctification. We kill revelation.

“This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.” (Joshua 1:8; ESV)

Give Him 15 minutes in prayer:

  • Oh, fall in love with the Bible all over again. Hold it in your hands and thank God for your Bible—His written, eternal Word.
  • Pray and ask God where to start reading. If you are not sure you are hearing Him clearly, just start reading—John, Mark, and the Psalms are good places to start.
  • If you are in a season of trauma or recovering from such a season, let His Psalms minister to you. Psalm 4, 23, 24, 91, and 145 are great. Read them out loud and let the words wash over your spirit and heal your heart and mind.
  • Our nation is in a violent transitionary period and it needs clear direction. Washington, D.C., leaders need prayer and wisdom. The border situation needs pray. Abortion and the funding of it are being unravelled, so keep interceding and decreeing! Pray passages of scripture over President Trump, his Cabinet members, and those in Congress. If you’re not sure who the key players are, just look at any news source and pray what you see. God wants to intervene in the affairs of men.

A prayer you can pray:

Lord, I love Your Word! When I am in a troubled place, not sure which way to turn, please don’t let me forget Your Word. You have written words of life in there for me. Lead me to the exact right passages I need today, Holy Spirit. Show me what I need to know about God today. Heal all trauma, doubt, unbelief, and any other thing that would keep me from reading the words of life that are there. Let the Psalms speak healing to me. Let John and Mark and other passages in the New Testament give me hope and faith and boldness. Show me any blocks to hearing You, strengthen my inner man, and give me clear direction. Lord, our nation needs direction, also. We are facing really tough problems with unclear and complicated answers. There’s a lot of fighting between political leaders, so not much is getting done. Give me scripture to use like a sword, powerful words that cut between the desires and thoughts of men, and usher in Your heart and plan. Thank you, Jesus. Amen.

Today’s decree:

“The word of God is a double-edged sword. It will judge the desires and thoughts of our hearts, and we will gain wisdom and direction when it does.”

Honoring Our Mothers

Being a mother is a grace gift of God. Seeing your mom for who she is can be a grace gift, as well. Mothers carry you in the womb and they carry you in their hearts. Regardless of your activities or theirs, you are never far from their thoughts. Mothers who love God pray for you unceasingly. Godly mothers look for ways to bless you, encourage you, teach you, and raise you in the fear and the ways of the Lord. Mother’s Day is the perfect day to pray for your mom in return, bless her, and encourage her. God loves our moms even more than we do. If you are able to, convey God’s love to your mom today.

“Only pay attention and watch yourselves closely so that you do not forget the things which your eyes have seen and they do not depart from your heart all the days of your life. Make them known to your children and your grandchildren [impressing these things on their mind and penetrating their heart with these truths.]—” (Deuteronomy 4:9; AMP)

Give Him 15 minutes in prayer:

  • If your mom is living, Christian or not, bless her.
  • Pray for her well-being and that she will know God intimately.
  • More than any gift you can give, give her a moment of your time. Sit down and visit with her or call her and show her the love of God. Ask if you can pray for her.
  • If you have lost your mom, thank the Lord for her.
  • If you had a challenging mom, forgive her, living or gone. Let your heart heal a little more today.
  • Intercede for your own children and grandchildren, if you are a mom. Bless them and pray for their well-being and salvation. Pray that God introduces Himself to them for the first time, or in a new way. From generation to generation, let’s bless one another.
  • Ask God to minister to those who desire to be moms and have not received the desire of their hearts. Likewise for those moms who have lost a child.

A prayer you can pray:

Father, bless my mother. For all of the sleepless nights and scary moments, joy-filled days, and all mundane ones, bless her. For the prayers she prayed and ways she may have taught me about You, I bless her. As she taught me of You, let me do the same with my offspring. Being a mom is a blessing and a challenge. I forgive any conflict I had with her, and I ask You to forgive me where I may have caused it. Minister to the hearts of the moms who may have lost a child. Comfort all those who have lost a beloved mom. Jesus, heal the broken hearts of all women who wanted to be a mom, but have not seen the desire of their heart come to pass. (If you are a mom with children and/or grandchildren, bless them and intercede for them.) Bless all the mothers, Jesus, amen.

Today’s decree:

God, bless the mothers of America as they raise their children to know You and Your love for them.

Transition Series – Who Am I?

Over my 25 years of ministry, I have at times thought I was each of the five-fold giftings. I thought I was a youth pastor. In fact, I was convinced of it! At another time, I thought I was a worship minister, then an evangelist, then on to a teacher, a prophet, and an apostle gift to the Body. This confusion came from a lack of identity. I didn’t know me well. Each time, I was content doing the thing I was doing and I was tolerably good at it, I think. Although I may not have been the best to ask about that. Finally, the Lord showed me that He was trying to put a little of this in me and a little of that in me, and give me lots of experience and wisdom. If I had not come to that understanding, I would be in the wrong ministry today.

When I shifted roles, I had some people tell me I was missing God. They were sure what I was, because they needed the gift they saw in me. But, God had moved me on to the next training season. With each change, I was convinced that now we were getting somewhere and I was finally moving into my true calling. We were all dealing with preconceived notions. This is exactly what kept the Jews from accepting Jesus when He came. They thought, “He’s supposed to look like this, and be like this, and do this, and say this, and be one of us…and on and on.” John the Baptist, and even the disciples, struggled with this. They couldn’t figure out what Jesus was doing, because it didn’t match their theology perfectly. Don’t let your preconceived notions keep you from hearing clearly from God.

“The mind of man plans his way, But the LORD directs his steps.” (Proverbs 16:9; NASB)

Give Him 15 minutes in prayer:

  • Ask the Lord to help you rest in the season of life you are in. If He has a change in mind for you, when He is ready, He will move you on.
  • If you are in the middle of a transition affecting your life role in some regard, ask Him for clarity and rest. Shut out every voice other than His. Where is His peace, Where is His grace? Where are the open doors?
  • Sit and talk to God about your preconceived notions. If He moves in evangelism in a way you didn’t expect or using people you don’t expect, are You going to recognize it? Will you be okay with it?
  • Intercede for the Body of Christ, regarding our corporate preconceived notions. These look like denominational beliefs, moral codes, which may not line up with the Bible, pet projects, eschatology, how the book of the Revelation plays out, and many other things. Ask God to line us all up with His Word, first.

A prayer you can pray:

Lord, who am I? Maybe I don’t need the full answer to that right now, so can You help me to rest in the place you currently have me? I want to be able to walk in the Hebrews 4 Rest of God, feeling loved by You and stable in my ways. I can’t please people and go every which way they would have me go. I only want what You want for me, right now. As I move into any new path or life course, help me keep my eyes fixed on You. I don’t want to be swayed by what others think I should be doing. Humans have a bad habit of pigeon-holing each other into places where it appears we are gifted. There are times You are revealing new gifts in us, new talents we didn’t even know we had, but You knew. Keep me from falling prey to man-pleasing. Help me see the open and shut doors in front of me. Grace me to embrace new skills and environments and mantles. I want my life to glorify You! Keep me from preconceived notions about how You move and about what the Word says is going to happen in the earth. Keep Your Bride ready, and willing, and watchful for the way You are freshly moving. Keep us in the Word, but don’t let us lock ourselves into mindsets where we could miss Your current movement in the earth, Jesus. Amen.

Today’s decree:

Men think God does things a certain way, but He is moving in new ways! Know who you are in this season and watch carefully for how He is revealing Himself to us now!

Transition Series – Desiring His Favor Over Conventional Wisdom

Don’t allow preconceived ideas or your own understanding or common sense mess up His process. “Trust in the Lord with all your heart. Do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your paths” (Proverbs 3:5-6; NASB). It is very challenging for me to know, sometimes, when to follow common sense, because I know some Christians that don’t believe in it at all. They just want to live in some spooky, spiritual world, and they have no common sense whatsoever. It’s hard at times to leave that spiritual place and go a way that seems to contradict conventional wisdom, or common sense. Most of the time, the Lord’s leadings fall in line with what He has taught me over the years. Sometimes, He clearly confirms to me what he wants me to do and it is very unreasonable. I’ve been taught to follow the favor. I’ve been taught to listen to my earthly father. When God is leading us to do something that seems to contradict what is conventional, you’ll need checkpoints all along the way. Don’t allow preconceived ideas to counteract what you know He’s telling you to do.

Everywhere I go now, people come up to me and ask me when I’m going to send out another call to prayer for elections. They say they are waiting on a Word for the nation. I always say, “If I get one, I’ll send it.” In 2000, I sent out a prayer letter regarding the elections that was anointed of the Lord. He led me to write it and it went to a couple million people in about 24 hours, then it went to millions around the world. This was before social media. It went out by email everywhere. It was really used by the Lord to motivate prayer for America. I could write another one. I could just ask people to pray. I could summon up some passion about the condition of things right now. But, try as I might to get the Lord to give me something, if I don’t have a Word from the Lord, I’m not going to do it. He won’t be able to bless it.

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not trust in your own understanding. Agree with Him in all your ways, and He will make your paths straight.” (Proverbs 3:5-6; NLV)

Give Him 15 minutes in prayer:

  • Embrace His rest. Embrace His grace. Embrace His favor.
  • Pray for wisdom. God shows us through Solomon that He wants to provide it.
  • Now, ask Him for direction, and in His peace and grace, what is He saying to you? Don’t be afraid of whatever it is, even if it does not make sense! Ask Him how you can carry it out. Do you need to speak, to write, to connect with or organize others? Do you need to fast and pray alone for a number of days. Do you need to give into something? Whatever it is, run it by your leaders, team members, mentors, family and closest friends, then go for it.
  • Focus on the Family recently put up jumbotrons in Times Square, New York, and showed an ultrasound, so everyone could see the life in the mother’s womb. Alive in New York took guts and a lot of money, but God directed it. Pray that many lives were saved from its viewing. Pray that many minds were changed! Pray for every dime of the cost to be covered!
  • Pray for other organizations, like Save the Storks and March for Life, that help women see the life within them as a baby.
  • Click here and here to learn more about how ultrasound images save lives.
  • Let’s believe God for more God-breathed ideas, and the favor to carry them out.

A prayer you can pray:

Father, we, Your people, have the keys to the kingdom in our hands. However, we don’t always know how to move forward with them. You will need to help us. Some of us can spend hours and days alone in Your Presence. Others of us hear You on the go. None of the “how we hear You” matters, as much as knowing for sure that we do. We want Proverbs 2:5-6 to be our reality. There is a time to seek You and a time to do what You are telling us. When You say something that seems beyond our ability, our personality, our faith, our financial capacity, we question it. Rightly so. However, when we are sure it is You, then we have to push past the naysayers, and trust You will grant the favor to accomplish the impossible feat. The “You” things are the great things. Those are the things that change the world and advance Your Kingdom in leaps and bounds. Things like the “Alive in New York” event that Focus on the Family just hosted in Times Square. Things like starting a ministry with vans full of ultrasound machines, so pregnant women considering abortion could see the little faces of the infant they are carrying. A God-idea that has saved many lives! Without Your favor on these ideas, they could never come to pass. Give us more, Jesus. More ideas, more favor, more faith, more boldness. More and more! Amen.

Today’s decree:

The world is waiting for people clothed in God’s anointing and favor to bring His life to this nation!

Transition Series – Finding His Perfect Will

Jesus says in John 7:17, “Anyone who wants to do the will of God will know whether my teaching is from God or is merely my own.” The principle here is, “If I’m willing to do His will, He will show me His will.” There have been times in my life where I was only willing to hear His will if it was this. I don’t think I was willing to hear it if it was that. So, you know what? There have been times when He won’t talk to me. Some people want to know the will of God, so they can decide whether or not to do His will. So, I need to work to get my emotions in control and say, “Lord, show me Your Will, because I believe in my heart You want the best for me.” Then, God can show me what His will is.

In Colossians 3;15, it says, “Let the peace of God rule your heart.” Don’t make the mistake of believing that the peace of God is an emotion. You can have peace in your emotions. The peace spoken about here is fruit-of-the-Spirit peace. You can have the peace of God and everything around you is in great turmoil. You can have just been dealt a very serious blow and your life be in grief, and you can have the peace of God. That’s because the peace of God spoken about here is something in your spirit. Sometimes you just feel a peaceful, happy emotion, but when it’s truly the “peace of God”, you can always trust it to lead you. There are times the Peace of God led me down paths that my emotions didn’t like. The circumstances may not have been peaceful to my mind, will, and emotions. However, God gave me a peace that settled all that and helped me hear Him, so He could direct my path.

“Whoever is willing to do what God wants will know whether what I teach comes from God or whether I speak on my own authority.” (John 7:17; GNT)

Give Him 15 minutes in prayer:

  • In all the crazy turmoil going on around us, there is a peace available to us. That peace that only Jesus carries. Worship Him and invite the Prince of Peace into the middle of your turmoil.
  • Ask yourself these questions from that place of worship and peace: Is it possible that the upheaval in your life could be connected with not knowing His will? Are you willing to do His will, if He shows it to you? Or, do you want to know it so you can decide whether to do it or not? Be honest with Him. He already knows the answer.
  • The world desperately needs the peace that only Jesus can provide. You carry His peace, when you humbly submit to His will and His direction for you. The world will take notice and many may want the source of that peace—Jesus! Intercede for those you know are in need of peace and worship some more! Here is some peaceful music to help you.

A prayer you can pray:

God, there is a whole lot of craziness and turmoil going on in my life, and everywhere, or so it seems. I need the peace that passes understanding. I know that is only found in You, Jesus, my Prince of Peace. (Worship Him a bit.) Lord, from this sweet and peace-filled place, I am asking You to speak to my heart. I want to know Your will. I feel that will help settle the fear and anxiety that may be contributing to my lack of peace and trust in You. You know if I can handle it. Show me if I only want to know Your will, so I can decide whether I like it or not. Reveal my heart, so I can know if my desire is only so I can decide if that’s something I agree with or not. My heart is so squirrelly. The Bible says that only You can know it. I open my heart to you. Speak to me, Jesus. Show me where I need to repent and get on board with You. I want the world to notice the Peaceful One I have walking with me, so they can know You, also. This nation needs peace and Jesus, You are the only one who can give it. As I worship some more, send Your holy angels to answer, to minister, to provide direction and rest. Thank you, dear Prince of Peace, amen.

Today’s decree:

May the Peace of God that passes all understanding flood us as we submit our will to His perfect Will—that the world may know Him!

Transition Series – Pulling Aside to Find His Path

I moved to Colorado Springs in the early 1990s, thinking I was going there from Dallas, TX, to take a year’s sabbatical and write. It was a difficult time for my family to make the move and seemed unwise, except for what I was feeling in my spirit. In fact, I had begun to feel somewhat successful in my ministry life. I was a part-time pastor at my church in Dallas and I taught part-time at Christ for the Nations. I also travelled part-time, teaching and ministering. I knew that all those things were a part of what God was eventually going  to do with my life. All those things were foundational to what I actually do today. Just as I was getting a little momentum, getting more meetings than I could take, etc., the Lord told me to pull aside for a year and not do any meetings. He asked me to hide, seek Him, and write. I ended up not doing much writing. He really just wanted me to seek Him; spend a lot of time with Him. I had several people that I really trusted that were telling me not to do this.

After about a year, God orchestrated me taking on another man’s church in the Springs. He was burned out and sick. He couldn’t do it anymore. The church was hurting financially and in other ways. At the same time, I was offered a 3,000 seat church with a six-story prayer tower in Florida. The retiring pastor was leaving it well and felt the Lord had told him that I was to take the church. He literally pulled the keys out of his pocket and dangled them in front of me. He said it was mine that very day. I could just take the keys and that was that. I told him I did not feel like I was supposed to do that. He began to weep and asked me to at least pray about it, so I told him I would do that. What was interesting about all this is that I didn’t want to pastor at all! But, all my emotions did say, “Go to Florida.”

My dad called me and begged me not to take the church in Colorado Springs, but to take the church in Florida. He saw the Florida opportunity as God’s favor. My emotions were in turmoil. Ceci and I had to shut out all the voices and seek Him. I asked my spiritual father to pray with us. When all my emotions calmed down, I knew what I was supposed to do. I was supposed to stay in Colorado Springs and pastor the church there.

“‘For I know what I have planned for you,’ says the Lord. ‘I have plans to prosper you, not to harm you. I have plans to give you a future filled with hope.’” (Jeremiah 29:11; NET)

Give Him 15 minutes in prayer:

  • Read Jeremiah 29:11 and think about it for a few minutes. Do you believe it? Does it ever feel like things are going the opposite way of what you expected? Consider it personally. Consider it over your state. Consider it nationally.
  • Declare, “I will put my whole trust in the Lord and I will do what he tells me to do, even if it seems to be taking me in a direction that doesn’t make sense. I believe He is preparing a future of blessing for me.”
  • Say, “I choose to trust the Lord with the future of America, even though the times seem troubled and like things are getting rapidly worse. God may be setting the pride-filled enemy up for a fall.”
  • Remember that God is working out His plan to expand His Kingdom in the earth. This involves many individuals’ lives intersecting. Worship Him for His wisdom, and intercede for His plans and purposes to come to pass quickly.

A prayer you can pray:

Lord, when I think about all the lives You have to direct every day, it boggles my mind. I will never know on this side of heaven how You so perfectly orchestrate things to cause Your Kingdom to come on the earth. Jesus taught his disciples to pray, “Kingdom of God, come! Will of God, be done!” I am sure they were as clueless as we are today just exactly how critical those words would be to the direction of their own lives and the millions of others to follow. Like a pebble in a pond, they began to create direction, purpose, alignment, salvations, relationships, and many other things. Everything moving us into Your plan and purpose—for ourselves, our families, our nations, Your Kingdom. You get to be Lord of our lives; Lord of all. This is Your story that we are a part of. You get to tell us where to go and where to be, and You don’t owe us any explanation. Help us to be obedient, Father, so we don’t throw a wrench in the works and slow things down. I choose to trust You with my future, and the future of this nation You placed me in. Line things up to confound the enemy. Surprise him and those he borrows. Let Your people be blessed as we humbly follow You. Let the world see Jesus in us. Amen.

Today’s decree:

We can trust the Lord with the future of America, even though the times seem troubled and like things are getting rapidly worse. He is undoing the work of the evil one and preparing a glorious future for us!

Transition Series – Don’t trust Your Emotions

I personally don’t trust my emotions, period. You can be in love with someone one day and not the next. You can hate your job one day and not the next. Did you know you really can feel differently depending on the barometric pressure? You might feel down today because of the weather! Or, maybe it’s the moon! There are so many things that can affect emotions. I learned a long time ago they are not given to me to guide me. Ever. They are given to me so I can enjoy life, be human, have feelings. They are given, so I can relate to others where they are. Because of emotions, I can be compassionate and understand others’ pain. Feelings are never, ever. given to lead me.

I will never make important life-decisions when I am emotional. I wait until I get my emotions under control, whether that takes hours or days or weeks. If my wife or a family member or a staff member is pressing me to make a decision on an emotional issue or at an emotional time, I won’t do it. I let them know I don’t trust myself to make a decision yet, because I know my emotions are too engaged. This makes it hard for me to discern what the Spirit is saying or if the decision is emotion-driven. So, I have learned to wait and just process with the Lord.

“They who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.” (Isaiah 40:31; ESV)

Give Him 15 minutes in prayer:

  • Read the news today. Do you feel angry, fearful, or otherwise emotional? Ask the Lord to teach you to find Him in the craziness of the national climate.
  • Intercede into that issue that made you emotional. Was it that Israel is being relentlessly bombed? Are you overwhelmed with LGBTQ issues in the schools? How about the never-ending suspicions related to the Mueller Report? Are you passionate about ending abortion, or at least defunding Planned Parenthood?
  • What is the thing that raises your emotional temperature? Say, “God cares more about this issue than I do. He has answers I don’t have. He can teach me how to pray regarding it and I will wait on Him to show me how. I will listen for scripture, the sword of the Lord, the Word of God.”
  • Is there something the Lord is leading you to do, as well? If there is peace in your heart, write that letter or email. Go and speak to that person that can make a difference. But, not until your emotions are totally at rest in Him.

A prayer you can pray:

Father, there are times I don’t want to hear the national news. I can easily be addicted to the emotional turmoil it causes me when I watch or read the news. So many things are out of alignment with Your Word. I honestly cannot believe our society has embraced such anti-Christian sentiment. We have walked so far from You. It all just stirs me up so much! I find myself reacting in prayer, instead of settling down and asking You to show me how to pray. You care so much about the people involved. You want to divide between action and person. You want to divide between thought and intent of the heart. You want to bring things into order more than I do. What good are my hot-headed comments on Facebook and Twitter going to matter? It’s my Spirit-led, passionate, intercession that will make a difference. It’s my carefully formed, Spirit-directed words written in a timely letter to the right person that will make a difference. It’s a well-prayed over vote. It’s a loving action that can turn things around in my community. Lord, help the Body of Christ get our emotions in check and show the world what true authority looks like. Make us Christ-confident and so peaceful that it shakes the enemies of the Gospel to their core. They are going to have to give up, turn back, and stop, because we are becoming calmly bold and relentless. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Today’s decree:

Let the people of God show their trust in God over national issues, by getting their emotions under control!

Transition Series – Adapting to Winds of Change

I’ve been studying some tropical trees that weather storms well. They can sway and bend almost to the ground in severe tropical winds. Their root structure is the key. Their root system must be very strong, very firm; immovable. However, up where the wind is blowing, they have to be flexible. When winds of change begin to blow around us, we need to be flexible. We don’t know when the Lord is going to come to us and say, “Let’s go this way.”

This is harder for some and easier for others. Prophets love change. They change everything all the time. They want it yesterday. Teachers like everything a little in advance and well-planned out. We are all different. Regardless of our personality or gifting, we all have to be flexible during seasons of change. As long as we are rooted deeply in Christ’s love for us and in His Word, and as long as we are seeking Him every step of the way, we will get there. He can work with us.

“Therefore, as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in him, rooted and built up in him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving.” (Colossians 2:6-7; ESV)

Give Him 15 minutes in prayer:

  • It’s difficult to know how to move forward if you are not grounded in Christ. You’ll end up tossed to and fro with every wind; shifting with the sand beneath your feet. Get your Bible out and start reading in the Book of John. Get to know Jesus all over again! Read it in an unfamiliar version, if need be. On Christ, the solid Rock, you will stand.
  • Ask God to show you how to move with any winds of adversity you are facing, so your flexibility will get you through.
  • Look at the Book of John again. Begin to pray through that wonderful Book. Pray the words into your life and relationship with Him. Pray the scriptures over the nation, as well. (See below for an example.)
  • Ask God to grace the Body of Christ with flexibility, while holding on firmly to the truth of His Word.

A prayer you can pray:

Father, what a wonderful example we have in that palm tree. It has roots so strong that monsoons have trouble uprooting them. They stand for 100 years, solidly in the place You set them, immovable, yet bending with the winds and storms in order to survive. Show me how to get through the situations I face, beginning with a firm foundation in Jesus. Where do I need to be ready to be flexible, following the leading of the Holy Spirit? My dogmatic rigidity can cause me to miss You. I want to move with You. My country needs this as well. Politically, on the right and on the left, we are convinced we are on the right side. Well, let’s look at the Word and see what it says, putting our roots down deep into that Rock. Jesus, You are the Word of God. You have always been and will always be. Everything that was made was made with You in the middle of it. If that’s the case, then I can trust what You are making in my life and in the land now. You are life and it is not possible to truly live without You. You are light. Your light shines in the darkness, unveiling everything the enemy is doing. Darkness cannot overcome You, which means the Church will overcome in You! You illuminate the dark places as I walk forward. You are faithful to lead, guide, and direct my life. You are able to lead this nation out of darkness, as well. Nothing is too dark, too far gone, or too big, for You to shift and maneuver into Your righteousness. Keep revealing Yourself to me and reminding me of the Rock that You are, as I pray through John. I want to stand firm in You, while I am make flexible as I am directed by You, for Your name’s sake. Amen.

Today’s decree:

Christians who have their roots deep in Christ will make him known in this nation and all over the world.

Transition Series – God Goes Ahead of You

In the mid-1970s, I was going on many missionary journeys. I was about to transition out of full-time ministry in the secular world to full-time ministry in my local church. I received a call from one of the missions team leaders, who told me there had been a cancellation of one of the leaders of the Guatemala team. Since I had been on the teams to Guatemala before, he asked if I would go and help lead the trip. It was the next day! I said, “Tomorrow?” I began to quickly think. I still had a secular job and I had used all of my vacation time. I had no money, because I had used all my savings going on missions trips. I had a boss that might have been the best sinner I have ever met. He was tough. He loved to mock me for my faith in Christ, so I could just imagine what he would say if I asked to leave tomorrow on this missions trip. I did the spiritual thing and said I would pray about it.

As I prayed, I felt sure the Lord was saying, “I want you to do this.” I told the Lord, “I have no money. I know I will lose my job.” However, I felt this urging that I was to go. A few hours later, I got a call from a man who had heard through the grapevine that I was praying about this trip and that I had no money to go. He said, “I want to pay for this trip.” So, I knew I had the confirmation to go.

The next morning at 7 A.M. I showed up at my worksite, ready to quit my job. I told my boss that I wanted to go on another missions trip. He reminded me that I had no vacation time left and asked when I wanted to go. I said, “In a couple of hours.” I told him I was not asking for the time off, but I needed to go. I said I understood that he probably needed to let me go, but I wanted to come and tell him in person, so he would know what I was doing and why I didn’t give him any advance notice. His response shocked me! He said, “Well now, wait a minute. Do you think you might want to do a lot of these?” I said, “I will probably do more. I really enjoy this.” He replied, “Well, I’ll tell you what. You can go on all of them you want to go on. I will let you have the time off. All I’m asking for is a little more advanced warning in the future.” Then, he gave me a raise!

“The LORD will guide you always; he will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land and will strengthen your frame. You will be like a well-watered garden, like a spring whose waters never fail.” (Isaiah 58:11; NIV)

Give Him 15 minutes in prayer:

  • Are you a God-follower? Rejoice! He will make a clear path for you!
  • You may not be able to see how He is going to work things out for you, but don’t be afraid, keep going, because He will probably surprise you.
  • Once you find the faith to know that God will work things out for you, believe that He will do the same for America.
  • Proclaim, “Jesus is working it out for His Kingdom to come and His will to be done in this land!”
  • Intercede for that stubborn door to open. Thank the Lord in advance for guiding your steps and making a way where there may seem to be no way.

A prayer you can pray:

Lord, what an encouraging testimony Dutch shared with us today. It shows so clearly how You are always working behind the scenes to be sure that we can do the things You have created us to do. You lead Your people and You lead nations who honor You as their God. You go before us, Jesus. You make a way where there seems to be none. Let faith arise in Your people, so Your enemies can be scattered. Our enemies are Yours! Our nation’s enemies are Yours! “Jesus, You are working things out, so that Your Kingdom can expand and be seen in the earth. America will never be the same once Your Church sees how You prepare the way for our advancement. Clear direction will come. Time will be found. Provision will be released. All of this, because You have a plan, and it will come to pass, if we seek You and trust You, Jesus. Amen.

Today’s decree:

We can trust our good, good, Father! He is already at work to see His plan come to pass in the land through His Body of Believers.
