Speaking the Words of God

We have entered a prophetic era of the mouth. Waves of the word of God released by His people will go forth. We will shape history with our words. There will be a sea of words. There will be a supernatural anointing of power on the words that will be released. The enemy has released many words. He releases lies, words that confuse, and words that discourage, even cause destruction. Those words have caused the environment in the nation to be treacherous and destructive. God is calling His people to release words of life and peace. We can set up an atmosphere of grace and peace, filling the land with love and mercy, life and peace. We are entering a great season where our words matter. We can surround ourselves with waves of blessing, or a storm surge that holds the blessings back. Release blessings and life. Plant what God wants. Speak the opposite of what the enemy is speaking. Choose the right words. They can be very strong words! They can be warring words. Remember, words were used to entrap Jesus, but he had wisdom and life and His words shut the mouth of his accusers.

“And the glory of the Lord shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together, for the mouth of the Lord has spoken.” (Isaiah 40:5; ESV)

Give Him 15 minutes in prayer:

  • Know that God has a plan to release His Words into the nation – through you!
  • Ask Him to fill your mouth with His word, so you can participate in it. Don’t be one who resists this for political or religious reasons.
  • Pray for any you know who are speaking unrighteous, ungodly, hateful words into the atmosphere. They may be Christians. They may be atheists, or anything in between.
  • Spiritually arrest the words of those who oppose Christ, who are opposing His people and His plan. Call them to repentance and salvation.
  • Get out your Bible, find a strong passage of scripture and declare and decree it!

A prayer you can pray:

God, You are filling the mouths of Your Church with Your Words. You are not just having us read Your Word, but You want us to declare Your Word. You want to offset the atmosphere being set by the enemy moving through his cohorts, who are speaking confusion, fear, doubt and destruction into the nation. People are not sure what to believe. They can’t tell truth from falsehood. However, it is the decade to speak. It is the time for Your people to declare and decree Your words. We are going to cause a counter wave of the Word of Lord, which will invade the atmosphere with Your will, Your glory, Your love, and Your mercy. Stop Your people from agreeing with the accuser of the brethren. Stop them, Lord. Let Your fear fall on us, so we stop and find Your Words and speak them, instead. Let us verbally uproot, tear down, destroy, overthrow, build and plant. Shift America with the sword of the Word, Jesus, living Word of God. Amen

Today’s decree:

The Word of God in the mouth of the saints will shift the atmosphere of America!

Veterans Day 2019

I want to do something very special for Veterans Day today. I want to introduce you to a spiritual son of mine and Ceci’s. His name is Major (Ret.) Bill Ostan, U.S. Army, and he is a veteran. We have known Bill since before he married his beautiful wife, Jen, who was a member of our church in Colorado Springs. Today, they have twin daughters and reside just outside Washington, D.C. Bill has a unique story. He has had to be medically discharged from the Army. His experience in fighting for his health against a battlefield-contracted disease and ensuing government red tape has led him to start a nonprofit to help other wounded veterans. It is called “Arc of Justice” and it is being launched today.

In this video, Bill describes the need. He says, “I am a military attorney with  service in special operations, therefore I was able to [advocate for myself]. However, most active duty wounded warriors cannot advocate for themselves. That’s why we need your help to pass the ‘Wounded Warrior’s Bill of Rights’.” Arc of Justice’s website says, “Let’s fight for those who fought for us.” #FIGHT4HEROES

Arc of Justice is not just about access to healthcare. It is also about justice for those who are wounded in service to our country. Please click here to watch a short video about the Arc of Justice project and learn the specifics of why the need exists and what you can do to help our wounded warriors. Here is the website, where you can find “5 Key Points of Participation”. You can make a donation to Arc of Justice here

“Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.” (John 15:13; ESV)

Give Him 15 minutes in prayer:

  • Pray for wounded U.S. soldiers, both at home and abroad, active duty and veterans.
  • Intercede for the advocacy of Arc of Justice. Pray for other groups you know that assist wounded warriors in getting the care they need, as well.
  • Begin to pray now that the “Wounded Warriors Bill of Rights” will get the support it deserves and  the right connections to get it passed in the U.S. Congress.
  • Pray for Bill, Jen, and their two precious daughters. Ask the Lord to heal Bill.

A prayer you can pray:

Father, today we want to honor our veterans. We bless them for their service to all of us. Please minister to those who have become sick or wounded as they have served. We are so thankful for groups, such as Arc of Justice, which have been established to advocate for our wounded warriors. Give them grace and favor to do everything they have set their heart to do. We pray for Retired Major Bill Ostan, as he works to get a “Wounded Warrior’s Bill of Rights” passed to help our servicemen and women. We don’t want to see another generation of homeless wounded veterans on our streets because of lack of proper medical care or access to it. Holy Spirit, blow Your wind of favor on this Bill of Rights. Bring in the thousands of supporters it needs. Put it on Your divine timeline and get it before the exact right legislators, so it can get passed quickly.  We want our generation to be the one that finally helps our veterans and wounded soldiers get the honor and care they deserve. We are the generation of the grateful, in Jesus’ Name, amen.

Today’s decree:

We bless America’s veterans for their patriotism, love of country, and willingness to serve all for the common good!

The Glory!

“The glory of God isn’t just a feeling, an event or an Old Testament experience—it’s a spiritual tsunami of everything contained in the character of God. It has been called the manifested presence of God, but more than just a presence, it’s power. The kind of power that resurrects, delivers, overcomes and transforms. It is greater and stronger than any other power in existence. And it belongs to us.

Maybe you feel like the glory of God is untouchable, unreachable or reserved for special church services. But, the power of God is available to you 24/7—to manifest in your life, your church and your country.” (Kenneth Copeland)

Here are some scriptures put together to give us a beautiful picture of God’s Glory:

The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims Your handiwork. Jesus is the Word that became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth. The glory that you gave Jesus, You have given to us, that we may be one even as You are one. You, O Lord, are a shield about us, our glory, and the lifter of our heads. And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit. For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord as the waters cover the sea. For from You and through You and to You are all things. To You be glory forever.

“Jesus said to her, ‘Did I not say to you that if you would believe you would see the glory of God?’” (John 11:40; NKJV)

Give Him 15 minutes in prayer:

  • Thank God for His Glory!
  • Look up all the scriptures you can find on His Glory and declare them out loud.
  • Declare His Glory is coming to America!
  • See the Glory fill homes and churches and schools, and businesses. See it fill the streets and government buildings, TV and radio stations, and sporting events.
  • Worship Him in the Glory that falls as you make those declarations.

A prayer you can pray:

Lord, we thank You for the oil of Your Glory! Lord, spray the oil of Your Glory all over this nation. Let that oil seep into every neighborhood. Let it seep into homes. Let it seep into government buildings. It’s going to flow through campuses and universities, high schools and grade schools. It’s going to go into churches that are dry. It’s going to rejuvenate people who have grown spiritually dry and become bound up. It’s going to penetrate and restore marriages. This nation is going to be saturated with the oil of the Father’s Glory. We call forth the Zoe Life of God. Let Your Glory cause life to spring forth everywhere, Lord. Nothing can hold Your Glory back when You decide to pour it out. It effects change wherever it shines forth. Individuals are changed, marriages are changed, churches are changed, cities are changed, nations are changed. Let the Glory of the Lord wash through our nation from sea to shining sea in Jesus Name. Amen.

Today’s decree:

Let America be filled with the Glory of the Lord!

Air Superiority Has Been Established

I was ministering recently in Jacksonville, FL. A ministry leader there told me that the Huguenots had landed there. Centuries ago, they had come and established a stronghold of righteousness in the nation on that shore. This was the place from which the Gospel was first preached in America, the first convert we know of on this soil came to Christ, and the first Believer was martyred there, as well.  He went on to say that many Christians had discerned that a demonic principality over America ruled from there now. A holy and deep well had been eventually taken over by the enemy. So, the Christians that had discerned this stronghold began a systematic strategy to gather there 3 or 4 times a week to pray against it.

Soon after they had started systematically praying over that stronghold was when I went there to minister on a Sunday morning. Before I arrived, I didn’t know any of this was going on. The man that went with me had a dream the night before I ministered. He didn’t know anything, either. In his dream, the U.S.S. Ford, which is America’s newest aircraft carrier, was being commissioned. It had actually been commissioned that week. It is three and a half football fields long. It is a city on the water. The world has never known a weapon like that ship. It can quickly move fighter jets and their pilots exactly where they are needed. It is the epitome of air superiority. In my friend’s dream, President Trump sent the U.S.S. Ford up a river. It couldn’t navigate a turn in the river and the water was also not deep enough there, so the ship got stuck—at the exact spot where the Huguenots had landed. Remember, this was also where they discerned this ruling spirit was operating from.

In the dream, reporters and others were giving the President grief for his decision. They were criticizing him and saying things like, “Why would you send this huge ship up this river? You should have known it would get stuck.” The president replied, “I sent it up there, because a Christian pastor and leader asked me for it. And, it’s not leaving there until he’s finished with it.” Here’s what I heard the Lord say, “The praying Church has now established air superiority over the enemy in America.” When you have air superiority, you win the war.

“For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.” (Ephesians 6:12; ESV)

“The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.” (James 5:16b; NKJV)

Give Him 15 minutes in prayer:

  • Acknowledge that God has given the Church air superiority. Intercessors are going to go in to the exact right place at the exact right time and pray the exact right prayers, and the enemy will be removed quickly!
  • Ask God for the clear revelation and discernment needed to remove the enemy from places where he has been given access by the population in the past.
  • Say, “The Lord said we now have air superiority. It is now time for those strongholds that have been established for centuries, even millenia, to be broken through in the power of Jesus’ Name.”
  •  Declare, “Whom the Son sets free is free indeed!”

A prayer you can pray:

God, we acknowledge that we are legally seated with Christ in the heavenly places. We have also come to a fullness of time where You are saying that You have situated things in the earth through the praying Church. You are saying it is the right time for us to break through. You are telling us that You are going to expose the giants. You are going to show us what we need to see, and enable us to go in, take out those giants and transform those places. You are going to show us how to set up or restore strongholds of righteousness on the earth once again. You are saying that we now have air superiority. It is now time for those strongholds that have been established for centuries, even millenia, to be broken through in the power of Jesus’ Name. People that have sat in darkness for centuries are going to see a great Light. Whom the Son sets free is free indeed! We thank You for the Divine Glory! We thank You for the completion that is coming! Be glorified, Jesus! Amen.

Today’s decree:

Strongholds are coming down in key locations in America!

Impeachment on the Horizon?

Next week, the U. S. House of Representatives’ Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence will hold impeachment hearings in Washington, D.C., that will be open to the public. They will question a number of individuals, mostly government officials, whom they believe may have information that could lead to the president’s impeachment. Please understand that those who want him out of office have already tried President Trump in their minds and are looking for statements that back their view that he should not be our president. Never in history have we seen such a display of hatred toward a president.

Even before Donald Trump was elected, some of his opponents were saying that they would impeach him should he be elected. In December 2016, even before he took office, there were calls by prominent Democrats for his impeachment due to what they deemed was collusion with Russia to upset the U.S. election process. That came to nothing. It has literally been one thing after the other. And now, they think they have their reason—a phone call to the Ukrainian president on July 25, 2019. The phone call was between President Trump and Ukrainian President Zelensky, who was asked to investigate matters related to Hunter Biden, the son of former Vice President Joe Biden. Joe Biden may be running against President Trump in 2020, should his party elect him their candidate.

It’s not really about that call, though. Have you noticed how rabid the president’s enemies are? Have you noticed that they try to find and twist any information they can toward their ends? All that matters is that his political opponents want him out of office. The media want him out of office. Planned Parenthood and their supporters want him out of office. His enemies will look for anything and they will stop at nothing until that happens.

“Your hand will find out all your enemies; Your right hand will find out those who hate you. Though they intended evil against You and devised a plot, they will not succeed.” (Psalm 21:8,11; NASB)

Give Him 15 minutes in prayer:

  • Let us stand for Truth above all else. We will know the truth and the truth will set us free.
  • Pray for physical, emotional and spiritual protection over President Trump and all those individuals being targeted in this latest situation.
  • Take authority over a political spirit seeking to destroy. This is the worst of political divisiveness.
  • Intercede for the hearings next week. Pray that everything done in darkness is exposed. Everything.
  • Command the impeachment process to cease, if there is no cause.

A prayer you can pray:

God, politics aside, your enemies have become the enemies of President Trump. Protect our president from the onslaught of his enemies, Lord. He is taking a strong stand for life and religious freedom and the darkness cannot stand it! Those who want abortion and promote other anti-biblical practices are out to destroy him. The political arena has become dangerous for those that stand for righteousness. Some of these politicians wanted President Trump out of office before he ever took his oath of office. They could see what was coming—their agenda would not be progressing forward. He was going to throw a wrench in their plans. And, he has. Now, light is getting lighter, and darkness is growing darker. It is getting easier to see who is on Your side and who is against You. This battle is not against flesh and blood, but powers and principalities fighting for control over the nation and over the earth. So, God, let the plans of men backfire on them. Let all the truth be told in the hearings next week. Let all the truth come out. Let it all be out there where everyone on both sides has to face the ugliness for what it is. Open the wound wide, so it can be healed. Everyone needs to repent and cry out for Your mercy. Let God arise and His enemies be scattered. “Let God be found true, though every man be found a liar” (Romans 3:4; NASB). If there is no cause in Your eyes, let the impeachment process be ended in the righteous name of Jesus. Amen.

Today’s decree:

No evil plot shall be successful against President Trump! Let the truth be found out!

Koinonia – We Really Do Need One Another

If you don’t know it, I am a bit of a loner. My favorite person to hang out with is me. It’s not arrogance or egotism. I have issues with myself, too, but I know what to expect from me. I don’t expect any more from myself than I am capable of giving, and I don’t care if I don’t talk to me. I just kind of hang out and I’m quiet and I get along really well with me. I know I need to get some things in balance in my life regarding relationships. God made me the way I am, but I am very aware that He made us to need each other, so I work on that.

Let’s look at that in light of prayer. You can pray all by yourself. God will listen. He loves to hang out with us individually. However, He also says that He loves it when we pray together in unity. He blesses it, and He multiplies His power when we pray together. Why? Because He is such a koinonia God. He even made laws in nature that require us to come together.

Some people don’t think they need others. Here’s a humorous story: “On November 20, 1988, the L.A. Times reported that a screaming woman, dangling from a freeway ramp on an east Los Angeles freeway, was rescued. The 19 year-old woman apparently fell asleep behind the wheel about 12:15 A.M.” The vehicle apparently stopped with just one wheel hooked to a barrier. It reportedly took about 2 ½ hours and 25 firefighters, tow truck operators, and other emergency workers to get her car back on the road and save her life. “It was really funny,” one fire captain said, “She kept yelling, ‘I’ll do it myself! Stop! Stop! I’ll do it myself!’ It took 2 ½ hours of 25 trained emergency responders, with ropes and trucks and equipment, but she kept yelling, ‘I’ll do it myself!’” That’s about as silly as we are when we think we can make it through life without help from others.

“I pray that they will all be one, just as you and I are one—as you are in me, Father, and I am in you. And may they be in us so that the world will believe you sent me.” (John 17:21; NLT)

Give Him 15 minutes in prayer:

  •  This one last time, sit and reflect for a moment on koinonia and all you have learned about it the last few days. Think about God’s need for family and friendship. Think about your own need for others. Think about how much we need one another.
  • Ponder loneliness. Have you ever felt deeply alone? Even as an introvert, have you felt the pain and silence and emptiness of loneliness?
  • Intercede for the lonely in your neighborhood, in your city or region. Pray for the elderly, the single moms and dads, the newly divorced, the new family at church, or college students far from home. Pray for the homeless, the addicted, and the mentally ill in your area.
  • If the Lord brings a particular person to mind, is there something you can do to help them or bring some life and friendship into their life? The upcoming holidays are a perfect time to include others in your family’s plans.

A prayer you can pray:

Lord, we are so glad that You have this need in You for family and friendship. We are so glad you decided one day that You didn’t want to live any longer without family. You took the risk, and it cost You a lot. It’s weighty to consider that we meant that much to You. We love You, Lord. We love to be with You. We love hanging out with You. It’s the joy of our lives. We love to be with friends and family. Give us a higher understanding of how to be family in the Body of Christ. How do we draw strength from one another? How do we stand with one another? Show us how to help somebody else succeed. Show us how to say, “Here, let me help you through this problem. Let me pull you through. Let me pray for you. Let me encourage you.” Lord, take us to a new place of relationship with one another. Give us a greater hunger for Your Word. Make us those that love to learn from You and share what we learned with each other, so we can all grow to maturity in Christ together. May we love You deeply. May we love one another, and may our love for one another make others want to know You. Give us the lonely. We refuse to allow others to be isolated. We will just go get them. Allow love to conquer the pain and the hurts that have driven them to that place of isolation. Jesus, give us koinonia. Amen.

Today’s decree:

We will only make it in life as we share our lives with one another.

Koinonia – To Your Health!

Let’s talk about this thing called fellowship—just hanging out, maybe sharing a meal. You may do this at a home group setting or a church potluck. You may gather a group of your Christian friends to your home for a meal and to watch a ball game, or play games or just enjoy some time together. This is actually very important to the Lord. Some references, such as Acts 2:42, show us that this was really important to the early Church. They made a really big deal out of it. They met frequently from house to house and they would break bread and study the scriptures together.

Let me tell you something you probably didn’t know. When God gives us His guidelines for how to live, it really is for our good. Science is now discovering that communion, or communal interaction, fellowship, affects your physical body. It makes you healthier. It surprised me when I read that. This is a scientific study. To live in community with others affects one’s health significantly. That doesn’t mean communal living as in living in the same house with people you don’t know. It means hanging out with them on a regular basis. That is from a study in the Journal of American Medicine.

They said, “Building on a dozen studies correlating friendship and fellowship with health, a new study has found that people with a broad array of social ties are significantly less likely to catch colds than those with sparse social networks.” Doesn’t that seem exactly the opposite of what you would have thought? I would think that the more people one is around, the more chances you have of catching something. Nope. It’s the opposite. It goes on, “A lack of diverse social contacts was the strongest of the risk factors studied, which included smoking, low vitamin C intake, and stress. Similar results have been found for heart disease patients who had limited social networks. They were found to be six times more likely to die of heart attacks than those with multiple friends, family members and acquaintances. God designed our physical bodies to live in fellowship one with another.

“They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.” (Acts 2:42; NIV)

Give Him 15 minutes in prayer:

  • Are you in the habit of regularly gathering together with other Believers? Think about why or why not?
  • Thank the Lord for His Divine healthcare plan! Thank Him for your good health.
  • If your health is not so good, thank Him for His healing grace! Gather a group of Christian friends around you to pray for your health. Share a meal and hang out together in koinonia for a while.
  • If you do not currently have a group of friends or Christian family members close by, start fellowship times in your home. Prime the pump. Make it happen! Watch what God does when you do.
  • Intercede for a move of fellowship groups across your community.

A prayer you can pray:

Lord, what an astonishing report in the Journal of American Medicine. I would never have thought that getting around other people helps keep us well! I thought just the opposite. I’m really processing through the reality of how serious You were about creating family and community. This is a core value to You and You back it up with a sign and wonder that is the opposite of what one would think. We don’t get sick being in community. We stay well! That’s exactly like You. The devil wants to isolate us and make us sick and weak. You want to gather us together to strengthen and encourage one another. Of course You do! Thank You for keeping me well and whole. When I am not, I will do what the Bible tells me to and call for the elders or other Believers to come over and pray for me. Then, we will hang out together and encourage one another by fellowshipping together. We will help keep each other from sin, as well as laugh together and learn more about You together. I pray that the whole Body of Christ begins to gather together in groups for fellowship in Jesus’ name. Draw us together, Lord. Change our communities through this act of love and selflessness. Amen.

Today’s decree:

God loves it when His kids hang out together!

Koinonia – God Shares His Secrets

I was recently reminded of a time when I was ministering in Toronto. The last morning, I was getting ready to go speak. I was just kind of hanging out with the Lord as I was packing to leave. I had some worship playing and I was throwing things in my suitcase. I reached up to grab a hanger and I heard the Lord speak to me. It wasn’t an out-loud dialogue. Just in my heart I heard Him say, “Japan is on My heart today.” I said, “Lord, is that You?” Before this, I had not had the concept of a particular place being on God’s heart. I thought God just had everywhere on His heart all the time. I never thought that way. Then, He replied, “Yes. Japan is really on My heart today. I must have breakthrough there today. I need intercession for Japan today. Would you take your session today and have the people pray for Japan?” He did not tell me to do this. There are plenty of times where God does tell me what to do or what to pray. He has a right to do that, but He didn’t do that this time. He asked, and I said, “Well, of course I will.”

I wondered later why He didn’t just tell me to do this. I realized that He and I had hit this place of comradery. He wasn’t being “God” in that moment. He was being “friend”. Something erupted in me that made me long to do what He asked of me. Of course, we will!

Something happened to that group of 1500-2000 meeting there that day. I went in and told them that Japan was really on the Father’s heart. I talked to them about that moment I had had in the hotel where He had shared His heart with me. There was a delegation of 30-40 Japanese people in attendance. I had no way of knowing they were going to be there. They came to the front and began to weep. Then this travail hit the room. The rest of my session, about 45 minutes long, there was this agonizing travail for Japan. All of this was born out of God’s heart released to me in a moment of hanging out with Him, when He chose to say, “You know, you could help Me out right now, if you would?” That’s koinonia. That’s what He’s like.

May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.” (2 Corinthians 13:14; NIV)

Give Him 15 minutes in prayer:

  • Do you want to know the secrets of God’s heart? Tell Him so.
  • Spend time in worship and intercession with Him. Just hang out with Him and enjoy His presence.
  • Ask God what is on His heart? When He tells You, ask Him what He would like you to do about it.
  • Delight to partner with Him in the fulfilment of His heart’s desires. Say yes to Him.
  • Declare over the Body of Christ, “May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you. May You know Him and make Him known in the earth.”

A prayer you can pray:

Father, I want to hear Your heartbeat. I want to lay my head on your chest and hear Your secrets. I want to worship You and know You love every second of it. I love hearing that You want to hang out with me more than I want to hang out with You. That’s just amazing! I want to find a spot of time where we can hang out together. What could be better? Even as I go about the normal parts of my day, let me keep my heart turned toward You. You could show up at any moment and start sharing Your heart with me. Tell me, Lord, please. Make my heart beat in tandem with Yours. When You tell me what You care about, my thinking is changed, my vision is changed, my intercession is changed, and my direction may even be changed. I want to partner with You to fulfill Your heart’s desires. Let the whole Body of Christ get this. May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with the Church. May we know You and make You known in the earth, Jesus. Amen.

Today’s decree:

Nations will change as we respond to God sharing His heart with us.

This call is open to the entire Church, however, it is limited to the first 5000 callers. You can jump on a webcast of the call here, if you cannot get on the live conference call. I also want to be sure you know this movement was not my idea, but rather I am one of a group of like-minded Believers who is leading and promoting it.

Here is the Give Him 15 post for today:

A significant meaning of the word “koinonia” is “communion”, referring to the sacrament which is a covenant meal, as in “the communion meal”, “the Lord’s Table”, or “the Last Supper”. We call it communion, because what is supposed to be happening there is a “communing” with Him. Just as the disciples communed with Him at the Last Supper, we commune with Him around this covenant meal. We remember what He did for us as we partake of it.

1 Corinthians 10:16 speaks of God in this context of “communion”. The reason it speaks of communion and the Lord’s Table is that when we partake of that bread and that cup, something more than a theological thing happens. We’re not just remembering something from way back when. God is trying to make a point that when we do this, we’re supposed to receive something. This is a sharing. He is saying, “I am sharing my life with you. When you take part in that covenant meal with me, you should be receiving something.” In some translations communion is described as a sharing of His Body. He is distributing life to us as we partake in His body and blood through the symbols of the bread and the wine. We receive a reminder of the exchange of His life for ours (redemption). We receive forgiveness and cleansing from sin. We can receive healing and restoration. He shares every aspect of Life in Christ with us at the communion table.

“When we bless the cup at the Lord’s Table, aren’t we sharing in the blood of Christ? And when we break the bread, aren’t we sharing in the body of Christ?” (1 Corinthians 10:16; NLT)

Give Him 15 minutes in prayer:

  • Meditate on communion, as in the Lord’s table. Think about the Last Supper and what was happening when Jesus revealed the communion meal to His disciples.
  • Have you been taking communion lightly or as a ritual?
  • Ask the Lord to reveal something new and fresh to you about the communion sacrament. Ask Him what He wants You to know about Him in that important meal.
  • If you have the elements for communion, partake with Him in this new revelation.
  • What do you need from the Lord? Ask Him for a divine exchange as you take communion with Him.
  • Receive what He shares with you—forgiveness from sin, life, hope, health, deliverance, and breakthrough. Let His love for you consume you.

A prayer you can pray:

Lord, I will meditate today on “communion”. As I read the story in the Gospels of that holy night when the disciples gathered in the upper room to share a passover meal together, bring revelation. They had no expectation of what Jesus was about to do. They hadn’t ever understood the symbolism in the ceremony. They were about to see that the whole thing revealed Jesus and the work He was about to do on the cross, which would give them eternal life. Wow! On this side of the cross it is so much easier to see. Yet, I often just take the bread and communion cup as “a thing we do as a Christian”, and not as the reminder of Your great sacrifice for me. There is life in it, Jesus. Your life is in it. Your life exchanged for mine. You gave your life to save me. You gave Your blood to redeem me, to heal me, to deliver me, to make a way for me when there seems to be no way. Cause me to pay attention as I take communion from here on out. Let me understand the koinonia in the ceremony. Thank you, Lord. Amen.

God wants to share the fullness of communion with His Church.

Koinonia – Defined

Koinonia is a word some Christians use in place of saying “community” or “fellowship”. I want to start to introduce it more fully to you over the next few days. I want us to look at it as it’s used in scripture and maybe take it from a religious term to something more life-giving.

One meaning of this word is “to communicate”. We get our English words communicate, communicative, and communication from it. It can also be translated “community”, “communion” (as in “together with one another”), or “social”.

This is an important word to God. In using it, God wanted us to know He wants to hang out with us and communicate with us. I’m amazed that God really wants to hang out with us. I’m amazed that when we worship Him, He cannot resist coming and hovering in the room. You can sense His presence and you know He’s in the room. This is not because He’s an arrogant or egotistical God who just loves to have somebody tell Him how great He is. It’s not because He’s insecure and needs to hear us worship so He feels good about Himself. No. He is such a God of “koinonia”, relationship, that He cannot resist the communing aspect of meeting with us. You can be in a worship service where there is singing, and if it’s rote or not heartfelt, there’s no presence of God that shows up. He’s not into hearing how great He is in just words. But when it’s heartfelt, and you can sense that it is true worship, adoration, communing, you cannot be there without God coming with His presence. He wants to relate.

“Through his glory and integrity he has given us his promises that are of the highest value. Through these promises you will share in the divine nature because you have escaped the corruption that sinful desires cause in the world.” (2 Peter 1:4; GWT)

Give Him 15 minutes in prayer:

  • Tell the Lord how much you want to understand the fullness of “koinonia”, so you can commune with Him and with the body of Christ in a deeper and more fulfilling way.
  • Repent for the times You have felt too busy to devote time to communing with Him. Maybe you didn’t even have a reason not to. He misses you.
  • Put worship music on and worship Him in a way that facilitates you experiencing His presence best.
  • Intercede for the Church to change the way they do things in order to set an atmosphere where He can come and commune with His people.

A prayer you can pray:

Lord, “koinonia” is a familiar word, but I haven’t realized what a deep word it is. Just like other Greek and Hebrew words, there is so much more to it than just the common term of “fellowship of the Believers”. I have thought of it as associated with home groups and potlucks and getting to know other Christians in a social setting. I really haven’t thought of this word as describing a deep, intimate relationship with You. I want to understand this word. I am intrigued by it now. Let the revelation of it change me and change the relationship You and I have. Forgive me for the times I have ignored You. I don’t know why I do that. Sometimes I feel busy, but sometimes I think I just don’t understand how important intimate relationship with Your people is to You. It’s hard to believe You really want to come and hang out with us. I do know You inhabit the praises of Your people. When I worship You, I sense You near. I long to have that be a consistent experience. I know You want this more than I do. So, teach me, Lord. Draw me to You. Make me long for Your presence as much as You long for mine. Let the whole Church want You like that. People, filled with You, who know You, not just about You, will be very attractive to the unsaved. Come, Lord Jesus, come to me. Amen.
