GH15 is joining in a national call to prayer before the 2016 Elections:

As One – A National Appeal to Heaven
40 Days of Prayer Walking the Nation

Here is Today’s Focus:

Compassion:

Sympathetic consciousness of others’ distress together with a desire to alleviate it

Matthew 9:35-36 (NKJV)

“Then Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people. But when He saw the multitudes, He was moved with compassion for them, because they were weary and scattered, like sheep having no shepherd.”

PRAY:

Jesus, I pray that in this election season, you would open my eyes in compassion to those who are weary and scattered, to the lost who are like sheep without a shepherd. May my vote be a compassionate vote—a vote of concern for those who need your healing. May the voice of your people in America today be one of compassion in response to the great needs facing our country at this time, and may the leaders we elect be compassionate as well.

Hurricane Matthew Aftermath

Please specifically pray for our southern coastal states of Florida, Georgia, North and South Carolina. Ask the Lord for mercy and grace for residents there who have suffered many losses, including a few deaths. Click here for a good place to give to USA hurricane relief efforts. Pray for residents of Haiti, as well, as they have lost almost 900 lives, countless dwellings, and water and electricity are desperately needed. Here is Today’s Focus:

Value:

Relative worth, utility, or importance; to consider or rate highly

Matthew 6:26-27 (NKJV)

“Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature?”

PRAY:

God, I come to you today in humble gratitude that you value me. I pray, Lord, that you would reveal to me the things that you value in this election, and that you would lead me to cast my ballot in accordance with your heart. I pray that you would show me how to value my neighbors—in the same way you value them—as I vote. Use my votes, Lord, to demonstrate care for those you value.

Here is Today’s Focus:

The Elderly

The elderly often face difficult challenges without complaint, and many have no one to help them in times of need. Pray that the younger generation will respect the unique gifts and wisdom of the elderly. Proverbs 16:31 says, “Gray hair is a crown of splendor; it is attained in the way of righteousness.” Ask God to reveal to elderly believers that they have a special opportunity to use their wisdom and spiritual maturity to be dedicated intercessors for the lost and others in need. Some may even feel called to be full-time intercessors. Pray that God will show them how to embrace this unique calling. Pray, too, about starting or joining an outreach team in your church or community that specifically provides assistance to the elderly. Pray by name for the elderly in your church who may need assistance. Befriend them, visiting them at home or in a senior care facility where they live. Pray for opportunities for sharing the Gospel with people who may have lived long lives but have not yet asked Jesus to come into their hearts.

Today’s Passage:

Psalm 71:17-23 “Since my youth, God, you have taught me, and to this day I declare your marvelous deeds. Even when I am old and gray, do not forsake me, my God, till I declare your power to the next generation, your mighty acts to all who are to come. Your righteousness, God, reaches to the heavens, you who have done great things. Who is like you, God? Though you have made me see troubles, many and bitter, you will restore my life again; from the depths of the earth you will again bring me up. You will increase my honor and comfort me once more. I will praise you with the harp for your faithfulness, my God; I will sing praise to you with the lyre, Holy One of Israel. My lips will shout for joy when I sing praise to you—I whom you have delivered.”

Here is Today’s Focus:

Children (Children in Danger, Children Trafficking, and Orphans)

Jesus loved children. In Matthew 19:14 He said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” Today we remember these innocent ones of society. Child prostitution and the trafficking of young children are on the rise in America. In addition, there are children in America who are without homes, food, and families. The children of America need our prayers today. Pray by name for children, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews in your family. Extend your prayers to children in your neighborhood, your state, and the nation. Pray that Christian parents will raise their children to know and love the Lord. Pray for Christ-centered alternatives in TV programs, movies, video games, and music that will help build a child’s faith, rather than destroy it. And pray for international evangelistic programs that help share the Gospel and make disciples of children around the world.

Today’s Passages:

Matthew 18:2-5 “He called a little child to him, and placed the child among them. And he said: ‘Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore, whoever takes the lowly position of this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. And whoever welcomes one such child in my name welcomes me.’”

Deuteronomy 6:6-9 “These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates.”

Delight:

A strong feeling of happiness; great pleasure or satisfaction; a high degree of gratification

Zephaniah 3:17 (NIV)

“The Lord your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves. He will take great delight in you; in his love he will no longer rebuke you, but will rejoice over you with singing.”

PRAY:

Today, Lord, I receive with gratitude your rejoicing over me. I serve you in joy and desire to bring you delight through my thoughts and actions—and especially through the exercise of power that is the opportunity to vote in this election. I pray that in this election season and through this upcoming vote, you would shape America to be a nation of people who bring you delight.

Devotion:

A feeling of strong love or loyalty; the fact or state of being ardently dedicated and loyal

1 John 3:16 (NIV)

“This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters.”

PRAY:

Thank you, Jesus, for your sacrifice and devotion to me. I pray that as I approach this election, you would show me how to demonstrate your love and devotion to the lost through my vote. Reveal to me, Lord, how I can lay my life down for the sake of others as I consider issues and candidates on the ballot. May my heart be devoted to you and to my “neighbors” in America as I vote this year.

Here is Today’s Focus:

Other Faiths and Belief Systems

Many Americans embrace belief systems and ideologies that claim to point the way to salvation through some system of selfsacrifice and good works yet miss the transforming power of the cross and resurrection. The apostle Paul taught, “if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!” (2 Corinthians 5:17, NIV). Pray that believers across America will have opportunities to share the reality of knowing Christ with those who have never experienced His “amazing grace.” Especially pray for the various faiths that exist in America, as well as the many organizations and individuals focused on demonstrating the compassion of Christ among people of these groups. Pray that the growing “prayer, care, share” strategy of truly praying for and loving those of other faiths through caring for and helping meet their felt needs will become a national strategy of the Body of Christ. Pray by name for neighbors and friends you know who embrace different belief systems, asking God to enable you to share the Good News of your own testimony with them in love and humility.

Today’s Passage:

Acts 26:16-18

“Now get up and stand on your feet. I have appeared to you to appoint you as a servant and as a witness of what you have seen and will see of me. I will rescue you from your own people and from the Gentiles. I am sending you to them to open their eyes and turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God, so that they may receive forgiveness of sins and a place among those who are sanctified by faith in me.’”

Here is Today’s Focus:

Pardon:
(The excusing of an offense without exacting a penalty; excuse or forgiveness for a fault, offense, or discourtesy)

Jeremiah 33:7-8 (NKJV)

“And I will cause the captives of Judah and the captives of Israel to return, and will rebuild those places as at the first. I will cleanse them from all their iniquity by which they have sinned against Me, and I will pardon all their iniquities by which they have sinned and by which they have transgressed against Me.”

PRAY: 4

I thank you today, God, for the gift of your pardon. I repent of all the ways I have sinned against you and pray that you would cleanse my heart of all iniquity. As I consider this year’s election, Lord, I pray that you would pardon your people in America. Cleanse our hearts of iniquity, and rebuild us as a unified Body known by our love in this nation today.

GLOBAL PRAYER SHIELD SUNDAY

“Seeking God for the Peace and Protection of our Cities!”

Join a broad coalition of churches, denominations and ministries globally in setting aside the first Sunday of October annually in the spirit of Jeremiah 29:7, Psalm 91: 7-11 and Romans 13:1-2 to appoint a designated time of prayer in our churches and other gatherings of worship to intercede for protection from global terrorism and for those who wear a of shield of protection (police, fire fighters, first-responders, etc.) as they seek to protect our citizens from harm and danger.

 Jeremiah 29:7
…Seek the peace and prosperity of the city to which I have carried you into exile. Pray to the Lord for it, because if it prospers, you too will prosper.

Psalm 91:9-11
If you make the Most High your dwelling—even the Lord, who is my refuge—then no harm will befall you, no disaster will come near your tent. For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways.

Romans 13:1-2
Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God.

Terrorism is now a worldwide concern. Primarily carried out by radical Islamists, this is a type of warfare that comes right into neighborhoods and group events right where we live. Our governmental authorities, intelligence agencies and local law enforcement are working together diligently to root out plots and plans and stop them before they can be carried out, but we believe Divine intervention is needed to help them. Please join with us in prayer to this end.

  1. Thank the Lord that He is the One who ultimately protects our cities and nations from harm. Tell Him that we acknowledge Him first above any other source of protection.
  2. Pray for the peace of the city you live in and ask God to provide protection against terrorism. Say that the blood of Jesus protects your city from all harm and that no disaster can befall it.
Pray for wisdom and direction from the Holy Spirit for authorities as they seek out all of those who may be planning harm and that every plot would be found out.
  3. Decree that acts of terrorism being planned in darkness in your state or nation will come into the light and be stopped!

Psalm 127:1b
“Unless the LORD protects a city, guarding it with sentries will do no good.”

1 Peter 4:11
“If anyone serves, he should do it with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ.”

When tragedy strikes, we all look for help. Those who are trained to provide that help, whether it is medical, protective, or rescue, are appreciated and honored by the vast majority of those whom they serve. In a day of global terrorism when authorities are under attack, as well as those who misunderstand and distrust even first responders, it is important that we pray for our police, fire, and medical response teams worldwide.

  1. Give thanks to the Lord for those who so often put their lives on the line for others. In so many ways, they reflect the giving nature of Jesus who gave Himself for us.
  2. Pray for physical protection for these first responders since there are many situations in which their lives and bodies are placed in danger.
  3. Pray for peace for their families who are aware of the dangers their loved ones often face.
  4. Pray for emotional protection, especially in the United States in light of criticism and attacks due to conflict between some African Americans and the police. Help them to not be easily offended or hurt by criticism. Protect them from cynicism.
  5. Pray for increased skill and effectiveness in their daily tasks of coming to the aid of others. Ask the Lord to give them confidence in the abilities He has given them and in those they have developed through training.

We must always remember that God is ultimately our Shield against the enemy’s actions. He is the one we look to first to protect us and save us. Worship Him and thank Him that we can rely on Him 100 percent of the time!

As One – A National Appeal to Heaven
40 Days of Prayer Walking the Nation

Here is Today’s Focus:

Christian Laborers

(Remembering Pastors, Evangelists, Teachers, and Other Christian Workers)

Today our primary focus for prayer as watchmen are those who help spread or teach the Good News of Christ in our community and nation. Be specific as you pray for those you know by name who are serving to advance the Kingdom of Christ. Some may be prominent leaders in the Church, known worldwide, while others may only be known to a small community of believers, including you. They need your prayers. Pray for those you know who may be beyond your theological sphere or denomination. Compile your personal list of those you want to pray for at least once each month. Pray also for more laborers to be called into the harvest (Matthew 9:37-38). Pray also for those who proclaim the Gospel, that it will be “the pure Gospel” and that all Christian workers, whether missionaries or indigenous pastors and evangelists, will remember Peter’s compelling words: “Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved” (Acts 4:12, NKJV).

Today’s Passages:

Matthew 9:37-38

Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.”

Romans 10:13-15

“Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? And how can anyone preach unless they are sent? As it is written: “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!”
