Brooke (@brooke111) and I prayed over some locations in the Wilmington/Hockessin area yesterday, but felt that we needed more preparation than we had done to address the C&D Canal. Also we felt that the canal is such a key waterway for the state that it would be good to have a larger group participate. Here are some Saturday dates that might be possiblities for me:
February 10
February 17
March 2
March 23
Or possibility a Sunday afternoon would work. Those are more free for me.
My idea is to drive the length of the canal from the Reedy Point Bridge over to Chesapeake City along the canal road, stopping at a few key spots. The north side of the canal looks like it has a better road (the south side has a big gap east of St. Georges).
We could start in Delaware City, pray over the Delaware River and the branch canal there.
I see a similar post on the Maryland forum - maybe we could invite Marylanders to join us.
We are meeting at the Park n Ride parking lot at 1:30 pm TODAY - 1423 S. Dupont Hwy (Route 13), Bear.
We're trying again for Monday afternoon, February 26.
And now I see 3-5 inches of snow tonight! :-(
This Saturday is the date we've scheduled for this! I suggest we meet at the Wilbur Elementary School (4050 Wrangle Hill Road) at 2:00 pm where we can leave cars there if we want to drive together. From there we'll drive into Delaware City and then west toward Chesapeake City. Possible stops:
Fort Delaware Park, Delaware City
Reedy Point (as far east as the canal road will go)
Biddle Point
St. Georges
Summit North Marina
Lums Pond
Lums Pond water treatment station
(then cross Summit Bridge and take south canal road)
Bethel Bridge Lighthouse, Chesapeake City
It will be chilly so dress warm!

The time is: Saturday afternoon, February 17. Anybody is welcome to join us!
I did a little reconnaissance mission to St. Georges and Delaware City to figure how to access the canal from those points. There is a canal road that covers part of it but it breaks off in parts, so I think Cox Neck Rd. is the best option along there.
Possible stops:
Fort Delaware Park, Delaware City
Reedy Point (as far east as the canal road will go)
Biddle Point
St. Georges
West of St. Georges there is a dirt road that looks like it goes down to the Summit Bridge area but then dead-ends; I don't see any way off of it. So there are two options: we could cross the Roth Bridge and take the canal road on the south side which looks more substantial, but there's nothing much on the canal until Chesapeake City. We could stop under the Summit Bridge, at the state line, and/or at the lighthouse in Chesapeake City.
Or if there is something interesting on the north side (Lums Pond? there's also a water treatment plant there) we could take Kirkwood St Georges Rd, Red Lion Rd, and Old Summit Road and access the canal that way, and then use Chesapeake City Rd. to continue west. But keep in mind I haven't checked out all those road connections.
Okay. Maybe see if Feb 10th works
I definitely want to be a part of this. Tough to narrow down dates but how much time should we allot
