Hampden County Prayer-drive 3

Update: Yesterday's drive went very well. Only needed my 4-wheel drive a couple times due to mushy slick back roads, which I fully expected to encounter. I had to re-route at one point (I had planned to drive what is basically a 'forest road' had it been clear - it wasn't). When I returned to what was to be my return point I decided to 'double back' and return to Union, Connecticut along the Hamilton Reservoir, so from Union, I ended up driving all the way back into Stafford, Connecticut (Rt 171 and Rt 190) which would bring me back to the road that comes up into Massachusetts where I live. I kept my mp3 going and continued to pray as I drove, so I need to check my Connecticut street atlas to update my list as I saw a number of waterways I had not expected to pass. I felt the Lord prompted me to take communion before I headed out this time. So I did so. I remembered to bring a lunch this time (remembered my tea last two times, forgot I would likely get hungry through!), but I had forgotten that I needed cash to enter the Bigelow State Forest, so I turned around at the entance and headed back to a gate that enters the state forest and stopped there. I also realized that on my route (the PDF) what I had noted as Rt 181 should have been noted as Rt 131. I'll be using Rt 181 on one of my future drives. The reservoirs were so beautiful yesterday - it is such a blessing to go before the Lord. Thanks to all who have been supporting the prayer-drives with your prayers. God's peace, joy and blessings, ~Amy

Hi Gail, My apologies, I ended up leaving earlier than I had planned and I reversed my route so that I could cover another reservoir. I had not attempted to print out a map as I have been using two street altases I've had for a while. Yes, as I was going along the rain became torrential, making it very unsafe for me to pull over at two of the places I had planned - but our Lord is so good! He reminded me that I'll need to pass over/by both of those spots on future drives north of where I live. Then as I passed over a railroad crossing that goes over some of the local rivers He reminded me to pray for the Rail Lines as well. My last leg home was over a narrow dirt road that comes through the corner of Monson, and Hampden, MA and goes into Stafford, CT and comes out on Rt. 32 across from State Line Pond - I am so grateful my old truck is 4-wheel drive! This list was typed out when I had planned to start in the opposite direction, but due to weather I reversed the route. I've add the reservoir and pond that I expanded my drive to cover and looked up a couple of the rail lines: Stafford, Tolland County, CT: State Line Pond Monson: Paradise Lake Calkins Pond Upper and Lower Dams Calkins Pond/Stage Coach Lake Bradley Pond Temple Brook Lunden Dam Lunden Pond Boulder Hill Pond Temple Brook (Monson/Hampden) Scantic River (Monson/Hampden) *Following the Course from the Hampden/Monson border to the Hampden/East Longmeadow/Somers, CT corner. The Scantic turns down into Somers, CT at the bridge on Mill Rd. Hampden: Rock-a-Dundee Brook Rock-a-Dundee Pond Scantic River East Brook Goodwill Pond Big Brook West Brook Watchaug Brook South Branch Mill River (Hampden/Wilbraham/East Longmeadow) Sprinfield area: Parker St., (to Boston Rd./ Rt 20 and Rt 21 intersection) Bass Pond Quarry Pond Mill Pond South Branch Mill River Venture Pond Parker St./Rt 21/East St Loon Pond Ludlow: Chicopee River Wallamanumps Falls Minnechaug Pond Minnechaug Brook Chicopee River Reservoir Red Bridge Hydro Palmer: The Confluence of the: Chicopee River Ware River Quaboag River Palmer Reservoir Covered within this prayer-drive loop: Wilbraham: Specacle Pond Nine Mile Pond North Branch Mill River Calkins Brook Twelve Mill Brook Cadwell Brook Monson: Maxwell Brook Pulpit Rock Pond Baldwin Pond Frietag Pond *This will complete my covering of Monson, Hampden, and Wilbraham. My drive covered parts of the Connecticut, Chicopee and Quinebaug Watersheds. Rail Lines: Cental Vermont Rail Line and ConRail *Need to double check the line names as they may have changed since my map was printed. Thank for checking in Gail and for helping cover these areas with prayer - God's blessings! Also: I've been planning on my route a couple days in advance and going over mulitple maps and online resources to make a list of places within my pray-drive circle that needs to be covered - now that I've begun to settle into a 'habit' of making a list, I'll post my next list/add it to the prayer list before I go out rather then just describing the route/circle I've planned out. ~Amy

Monson - Hampden County

Planned for January 26th I'm planning another Hampden County Drive, weather permitting, on Friday - I don't mind driving or being out in the rain. As I still need to "prayer-drive" the South-east side of Monson this is my next planned "prayer-drive." So, from the Monson town reservoir (Chicopee Brook). My plan is to head into Hampden, following the course of the Temple Brook, pass over a brook on the Hampden-Monson town line that was once the border of my Great-grandparents farm. I'll turn left there and head to the Scantic River - when I was a child we lived on the banks of the Scantic twice. My dad, his dad and I fished along the Scantic in Hampden often. My dad's first business was on the banks of the Scantic, and he used the name of the river as part of his business name up until his passing in early 2020. I'll stop at a bridge in Hampden near the Eastlongmeadow border - then I'll head back along the border of Eastlongmeadow to prayer-drive a circle around Hampden and Wilbraham - I'll pass over the Chicopee River at Wallamanumps Falls, turn right on East St. in Ludlow and head to the Red Bridge Hydro plant and the Chicopee River Reservoir. That route will bring me to the confluence of the Chicopee River, Quaboag River and the Ware River - there is a parking area near the bridge. My route home will take me down rt 32 in Monson - the loop covers and south-east and north-east of Monson, all of Hampden and Wilbraham, parts of Ludlow and Palmer. Will stop in quiet spots along the route as possible. God's joy and blessings! ~Amy The Scantic River is a tributary of the Connecticut River and flows into Connecticut. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scantic_River https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quaboag_River https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ware_River
