After the call for prayer for our nation’s waterways and dams, I considered praying over the small lake I live on in southeast Virginia. It is only about 100 acres, so at first I thought it was too insignificant to make a difference. Then the Lord reminded me that this lake, Skiffe’s Creek Reservoir, has its beginning at the Naval Weapons Skiffe’s Creek Annex Station in Yorktown. Below the dam that forms the lake, the water flows past the Joint Command Langley Eustis at Fort Eustis, VA and into the James River. With that understanding, I have prayed for the safety of both military bases and those that are beyond along the James River, Hampton Roads, and the Chesapeake Bay: Langley Air Force Base, the Norfolk Naval Base and Little Creek Amphibious Base. I am reminded that seemingly insignificant bodies of water may be surprisingly important.
